How we use social media sites everyday.

The Huffington Post has an article called 100 Fascinating Social Media Statistics and Figures from 2012. These 100 statistics and figures are broken down in 5 categories, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Google Plus. I went through the 100 statistics and figures to pick out some of them that stood out to me. The facts start off with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and then Google plus. I find it so interesting to see these facts on how we (social media users) use our social media sites every day and how often we use them. My favorite social media site is Instagram, so those were probably my favorite facts to read about. I found the google+ facts were the most surprising to me. Here are some of facts that stood out the most to me.

Social Media and Sports

The number one topic I pay the most attention to on social media is sports. On twitter I follow UofL Sports, NFL and ESPN, these are just a few examples that I follow. It works great for reminders of games for UofL, updates on athlete injuries for NFL and any breaking news on ESPN. These sites work great to keep you updated on all the different sports and teams. I don’t have a lot of time during the day to sit and watch sports center or just look around on their websites. These social media sites get right to the point by having the top headlines posted to catch your attention.

One of my favorite NFL teams is Steelers, I follow this team on Twitter and Instagram. Following them on these sites allows me to stay tuned in with the team and know what is going on. They will post pictures while they are traveling which is fun for fans to see their personalities off the field. When players get injured, coming back from injury or any other important news, their social media sites are always updated. They do give a play by play of the games, which is great when I am work since I cannot watch it.

UofL sports also do a great job giving play by plays and really keeps you informed. UofL has twitter accounts for a lot of their individual teams like soccer, track and field, football, basketball, softball and many more. They all stay fairly updated and post regularly about important information dealing with the players or the team overall. Since I am going in the spots field, I look forward to seeing social media and sports integrating with each other and the benefits both with have from each other.

Social Media Monitoring

After I got accounts on Kred and Klout I started to really pay attention to how influential I am on my social media. I am personally not very influential since I don’t focus on my own personal sites enough. I focus a lot on my internships social media sites and getting content for those. Once I spend a lot of time on their sites I don’t really mind to get on mine. It really pays off building your followers then translating that over to my business social media sites. My goal is to build the Sports Commissions social media sites and really get people involved with the information we post and turn to us for information. I have considered making the Sports Commission a Klout account to really see if they are benefiting from their sites or we stand so we can start improving. There are so many sites now that helps individual businesses break down their tweets, retweets, posts, reposts and sharing to show what is working and what is not catching their target audiences attention.

Social Consumers

We are all social consumers in some way if we are on social media. We are surrounded by advertisements and businesses that are throwing their products to us. As consumers it makes since for businesses to join networks that their target audience is on to promote specials, new items they have and much more.  There was a great article from the Huffington Post, the article title was Brand Building: Connecting With Consumers Through Social Media. This article has a list of the things to do to build your consumers; this list includes the following, Being authentic, Remain Relevant, Be Persistent and Be Consistent. This list caught my eye because it is a very accurate list of the things I would be looking for as a consumer. The article is very informative for businesses to follow when they are trying to build their social media sites. It is not easy to keep up with all the social media sites and all the new features that are always coming out. It takes a lot of work and dedication for a company to keep up with their social media sites to impress us (the consumers).

People while they are traveling…

Are people ruder when they are traveling? This caught my attention recently because I flew to Florida by myself and I caught myself really paying attention to the way people were acting. of course i noticed people are more incline to sit there on their phones, tablets, or computers while waiting for the plane, but it was very apparent that as a society we have a hard time communicating to each other. as a society we do not communicate or intereact with each other like it use to be It was very irritating hearing and seeing people react negatively towards each other. Some of the biggest things that stood out to me were the attitude people give each other when getting in line to board the plane, looks mom’s got with kids, and attitude flight stewards got when they asked for people to turn off phones. I could probably write a never-ending list of the things I saw but these three stood out the most.

Pictures and videos

Infographics and visualization are taking over social media. it does matter what items you are attaching to a post or a tweet. every target audience is looking for that “wow” factor and majority of the time it is the visual that is attached. when it comes to strategic posting you have to be careful not to just post repetitive items nor boring items that don’t have to say much. every item that is posted needs to have a certain meaning behind it to get the audience talking. one company that does a great job with visualizations is Churchill Downs. their pictures are appealing, they keep you wanting to check for an update or the next posting. as a society we are so used to getting on social media and seeing pictures and videos but we don’t realize that they become addicting.

Phone cases

we as a society have grown to be dependent on our phones. no matter what type of phone you have whether it is a smart phone or a flip phone. I use my phone constantly, probably a little to much. as much as we try to take care of our phones accidents happen, I am on my 4th IPhone because I have dropped my phone a few times which cracked the front screen. I did not have a case on my phone any of the times I dropped it which explains why the screen cracked so bad. I do have an Otterbox case on my phone now and it is a lifesaver. I am very clumsy so this does protect my phone 100%. I do not care for the thickness of the case but it has saved me a lot of money from having to fix my screen every time I drop it. Having the otterbox on your phone does save you money in the future so there is really not a good reason not to have one on your phone.

MAC Book Computers!

I currently have a Mac book computer and I love it. I can only say positive things about all of the features on it. I love photography, which this computer was made for this hobby. I have also been the videographer for a few wedding and could not have developed the videos I did if it wasn’t for this computer system. Mac computers are extremely reliable and it is super easy to fix any issues by just calling apple or going into the store. My favorite software that the mac book comes with is iMovie. It is a tough software to use at first but like any other software once you play around on it you will learn it. I have done multiply projects on this program and can’t wait to do my next wedding in the spring. If anyone is considering buying a new computer I would recommend the Mac Book 100%!!

HootSuite University

I have not had the opportunity to start the University program but I have been able to create my dashboard. I have taken advantage of uploading all my accounts to my dashboard, it is a great way of organizing all of your social media accounts. We are all so used to getting on our phones which we have separate apps for all of our different social media apps. I did download the Hootsuite University app and I have really tried to use that app instead of all my individual apps. I have grown to like the app but it is hard to remember to use it sometimes. I am looking forward to starting my Hootsuite University assignment and learning all of the insight they have to share.

Blogs Positive or Negative?

My junior year in college was my first time blogging. One of classes required us to create a blog and each week post about different topics. The main focus of the class was communication technology, I did not really enjoy posting since we were required to post about topics the professor gave us. Since I had a bad experience blogging for that class I became a little apprehensive towards it. I did not find it fun in that class so I also do not feel like my writing improved.  I am now taking a social media class that also requires blog postings. I was very hesitant since I did not have a positive experience the first time I wrote blogs for a class. I have so far enjoyed writing these blogs since we are allowed to pick between two topics and also write about a topic we pick. Since I have started blogging again I have started to really enjoy reading other blogs. I do not have a favorite blog yet but as soon as I find it i will write about it!
